Daum

Inspired by the wealth of forms of the natural world

During the Art Nouveau period, the creations of Daum excelled in complexity. The most intricate compositions exhibited a varied colour palette and were complemented by supplementary glass elements, such as detailed ornaments in naturalistic forms. Daum has always found its inspiration in the natural world and its extraordinary wealth of forms.
This complexity is made possible by the glass paste or “pate de verre” technique, which originated in ancient Egypt around 5,000 BC and was rediscovered by Daum in 1900 and subsequently refined. Daum is the only glass producer in the world that perfectly masters the glass paste technique.

Between the two world wars, Daum developed a monochrome Art Deco style featuring thicker walls and geometric patterns etched deeply into the glass.

The great strength of Daum has always been its collaboration with the leading designers of each era, such as Hilton McConnico, Jean Faucheur, and more recently, Philippe Starck. The limited art editions resulting from this collaboration are highly sought after. Nowadays the Daum collection consists of decorative objects, jewellery and art editions.
